SE Vol 94 – Miles

Singing in church choirs & school plays, somehow music was always around. Penned a paper on the Autobiography of Miles Davis and the most memorable part of the read was how Miles would play the trumpet with his back turned to the audience. “Kind of Blue” is a playlist I frequently enjoy.

For now, you can find thousands of sites on his work and influence. Do enjoy the links and pics below.

Don Cheadle, who is set to portray Miles and direct the film is forth coming. Looking forward.

Quotes on Miles

*This post is in honour of Miles who entered my world thirteen yrs ago today.

*The transition date of Miles Davis is also the transition date of a woman who will forever be a fabric in my life-quilt and the day I joined my life-partner almost twenty yrs ago in “keeping it moving”.

SE Vol 90 – Good Morning Sunshine

Over a decade ago I first heard a poet (Ryva Parker) at the mic recording these two words with such sincerity that I’m often taken back to that moment when I hear “Good Morning Sunshine”.  Here are various takes on that very same phrase – do njoy.

Bronx native, and still a b-boy, Gene Roberson, aka GenieQ, is the founder of Dookiejuice (a stem from Porcocoabutta Entertainment.), which is a family of spoken-word artists, mcees and songwriters.
A few years back this young mc in the Bronx, GenieQ, went on to Cheyney University to study communication arts where he found himself turning his high school ryhmes into songs. Later on he was chosen to host ButtaMilk Worldwide, a mark in Philadelphia spokenword/soul history, which featured spoken-word artists and cutting edge soul grooves mixes by QoolDjMarv.

The voice that introduced Ms Jill Scott to the world.

Not sure how this “Morning Sunshine” collab came about, cuz I thought I had the inside connect, but I’m sooo diggin’ this flow and intellect.  play this track while drivin’ to keep my head up and you’ll just have to wait to give it a check. OK – Wait no more….found it!!

you get a gallon of the hate

but it’s in the mind state

and how you shake the water weight”….
